Jack Daniel's Maker Brown-Forman Stumbles After Earnings

Brown-Forman says 'retaliatory tariffs' and competition to cloud outlook for full fiscal 2019.

The company posted earnings per share of 47 cents for the third quarter -- up 20% from the same time last year and ahead of analysts' expectations. 

But net sales only increased by 3% from a year earlier to $904 million. Brown-Forman said third-quarter sales were hurt by a percentage point because of lower net prices to distributors in certain markets used to offset tariffs.

Operating income rose 4% to $320 million.

Brown-Forman Corporation (BF.B) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.48 per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.50 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.47 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of -4%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this company would post earnings of $0.53 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.59, delivering a surprise of 11.32%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates three times.

Brown-Forman Corporation, which belongs to the Zacks Beverages - Alcohol industry, posted revenues of $899 million for the quarter ended January 2020, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.37%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $904 million.

halte die Aktie schon eine ganze Weile und bin über Zerohedge auf die Medienkampagne von Brown-Forman gestossen. Sie haben diese Werbung schon seit knapp zwei Jahren am Laufen, sehe kein US Fernsehen, deshalb wusste ich nichts davon. Frage mich, ob die Marke "Jack Daniels" dadurch Schaden genommen hat? Wenn man den Chart sieht, dann könnte man den Schluss daraus ziehen. Seit Anfang April wird Jack Daniels in den US-amerikanischen sozialen Medien verstärkt für den Kulturkampf eingesetzt, die Stimmung schwankt zwischen "gone full woke" und "Jack Daniels lost a loyal drinker, never again". Es könnte eskalieren, man darf die Macht der sozialen Medien in solchen Dingen nicht unterschätzen.
