Micron quarterly sales come up short of analyst expectations

Micron Technology Inc. MU, -0.07% reported quarterly sales Tuesday afternoon that failed to meet expectations that were already diminished by a slowdown in the memory-chip business. Shares dropped about 1% in after-hours trading immediately following the report. Micron reported profit of $3.29 billion, or $2.81 a share, on revenue of $7.91 billion, up from $6.8 billion a year ago. After adjustments for stock compensation and other effects, the chip maker reported earnings of $2.97 a share, up from $2.45 a share a year ago. Analysts on average had expected adjusted earnings of $2.95 a share on revenue of $8 billion.

Kooperation mit Intel-Tochter Mobileye
Anfang Januar wurde bekannt, dass Mobileye die Chipsätze von Micron für die eigene Plattform im Bereich selbstfahrender Autos nutzen wird.
Micron hat sich die Marktführerschaft in diesem Segment gesichert, sonst würden Intel und Mobileye schließlich eigene Chips nutzen.
Dadurch landen die Produkte von Micron am Ende in den Autos nahezu aller namhafter Hersteller. Mobileye hat bereits vor der Übernahme mit Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia und Opel kooperiert.
Auch Tesla, der den wohl am weitesten entwickelten Autopiloten anbietet, nutzt die Chips von Micron.

Wo wird MU wohl hingehen, ein zyklischer Wert und der Aktienkurs wird gefühlt noch viel zyklischer als das Geschäft des Unternehmens selbst.

Bin letztes Jahr zu $37 rein und bin damit zufrieden. Nichts tun hat sich bisher gelohnt und ich warte einfach bis die Aktie $100 durchbricht. Die Frage ist für mich nicht, ob das passiert, sondern wann (1, 3, 5, oder mehr Jahre?).

Micron's (MU) Q2 Earnings Beat Estimates, Q3 Guidance Solid

Despite the business disruptions caused by the coronavirus outbreak, Micron MU reported stronger-than-anticipated results for second-quarter fiscal 2020 on Mar 25. The company’s fiscal second-quarter non-GAAP earnings per share of 45 cents beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 18.4% and surpassed its guided range of 35 cents (+/- 6 cents) as well.

Moreover, quarterly revenues of $4.8 billion outpaced the consensus mark of $4.6 billion. The memory chip maker’s revenues also came in line with the higher-end of management’s guided range of $4.5-$4.8 billion.

Nonetheless, top and bottom lines both declined on a year-over-year basis. While revenues fell 17.8%, non-GAAP earnings slumped 73.7%.

Micron's (MU) Shares Gain on Q3 Earnings Beat, Upbeat Guidance

Micron’s MU shares rallied nearly 6% yesterday during the extended trading session after the company reported better-than-expected results for third-quarter fiscal 2020.

The company’s fiscal third-quarter non-GAAP earnings per share of 82 cents beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.1% and surpassed its guided range of 75-80 cents as well. Nonetheless, non-GAAP earnings registered a year-over-year decline of 21.9%.

Quarterly revenues of $5.44 billion outpaced the consensus mark of $5.32 billion and increased 13.6% from the year-ago quarter’s $4.79 billion. The memory chip maker’s revenues also came in line with the higher-end of management’s guided range of $5.2-$5.4 billion.
