Deere Q1 profit falls short of estimates as sales beat

Deere & Co. DE, -4.57% said Friday it had net income of $498.5 million, or $1.54 a share, in its fiscal first quarter, after a loss of $535.1 million, or $1.66 a share, in the year-earlier period, when the maker of agricultural equipment booked a tax charge. Adjusted per-share earnings came to $1.35, below the $1.76 FactSet consensus. Sales rose to $6.941 billion from $5.974 billion, ahead of the FactSet consensus of $6.853 billion.

Deere & Co. posted weaker-than-expected second quarter earnings Friday, and lowered its full-year profit outlook, as "softening" agricultural market conditions clouded its near-term
forecasts.

Deere said earnings for the three months ending on April 28, the company's fiscal second quarter, came in at $3.52 per share, up 12.1% from last year's adjusted total but 9 cents shy of the consensus Street forecast. Group revenues, Deere said, rose 5% to $10.3 billion, just ahead of the $10.12 total forecast by analysts that cover the group.

Deere (DE) Q1 Earnings and Revenues Top Estimates

Deere (DE) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.63 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.28 per share. This compares to earnings of $1.54 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 27.34%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this agricultural equipment manufacturer would post earnings of $2.13 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.14, delivering a surprise of 0.47%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.

Deere, which belongs to the Zacks Manufacturing - Farm Equipment industry, posted revenues of $6.53 billion for the quarter ended January 2020, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.25%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $6.94 billion.

Deere's stock surges toward record after profit and sales beats, upbeat outlook

Shares of Deere & Co. DE, -0.46% surged 4.4% toward a record high in premarket trading Friday, after the agriculture and construction equipment maker reported fiscal third-quarter profit and revenue that were well above expectations, while providing a somewhat upbeat outlook. Net income for the quarter to Aug. 2 fell to $811 million, or $2.57 a share, from $899 million, or $2.81 a share, in the year-ago period. The FactSet consensus for earnings per share was $1.26.
