Was heißt „nur“ 2000?

Play Magnus Group (PMG) – Q1 2021: Accelerated growth in Q1 2021 with bookings up 221% Y/Y and revenue up 301% Y/Y
26.5.2021 07:00:01 CEST | Play Magnus AS | Half yearly financial reports and audit reports / limited reviews
(Oslo, 26 May 2021) - Play Magnus Group, a global leader in the chess industry, today published its financial results for the first quarter 2021. Bookings grew by 221 percent year over year to USD 5.3 million and revenue grew by 301 percent to USD 4.6 million compared to Q1 2020. This was driven by 113 percent growth in the number of monthly paying users, 50 percent growth in average revenue per paying user, and strong Tour partnership sales.
“Q1 2021 was a strong quarter for Play Magnus Group, and we are excited to report further accelerated growth rates across the number of users, bookings and revenue. Our long-term growth model is being confirmed, and we see that the investments we are making in our online chess services as well as the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour are yielding solid results,” said CEO of Play Magnus Group, Andreas Thome.
The 2021 guidance for bookings is raised to USD 21-23 million. The 2021 guidance was previously USD 19-21 million, raised after Q4 2020 from USD 14-16 million. The increase in guidance is partly driven by the effect from recently acquired companies, but also from strong performance in the Courses and Tour & Partnerships segments. Play Magnus Group maintains its long-term target of annual bookings of more than USD 60 million in 2025.
“The interest in online chess continues to grow fast. Play Magnus Group provides a global ecosystem where people can play, watch and learn chess, and the different components of the ecosystem enhance each other. Our main revenue drivers are digital courses, subscriptions and Tour partnerships, and there is no doubt that the commercial potential remains untapped. In the years to come we will continue to innovate and scale in order to realize this opportunity,” said Andreas Thome.
In Q1 2021 Play Magnus Group had on average 58,700 monthly paying users, up from 27,600 one year earlier. Average monthly revenue per paying user was USD 17.6, up from USD 11.7 one year earlier.
Play Magnus Group had a negative Adjusted EBITDA of USD 2.6 million in the quarter as the company invested into growth initiatives and hiring development teams for digital services.
“This has been an exciting period for Play Magnus Group. In Q1 we broke the peak viewership record for pro chess tournaments on online streaming platforms, saw Course revenue up 337% year over year, and closed three acquisitions. With its continued success we see the Tour being well on its way to breaking even as media and partnership rights continue to become more valuable. We also plan to continue our targeted M&A activities, aiming to add relevant chess content and services,” said Andreas Thome.
