American Airlines' shares jump after earnings beat, strong 2019 profit forecast

The airline's per-share earnings came in at $1.04 on an adjusted basis, slightly above the $1.01 analysts polled by Refinitiv had expected. American's net income, excluding special items, rose 8 percent to $481 million.

Revenue in the last three months of 2018 was $10.94 billion, just below the $10.95 billion Wall Street expected and up 3 percent from a year earlier.

AAL, +11.18% set two new records Friday, one for volume and another for weekly gains, as an upbeat outlook for travel demand continues to fuel investor sentiment. A shockingly upbeat May jobs report also helped support the notion that the worst of the COVID-19 crisis has passed. The stock jumped 11.2% to the highest close since March 2, a day after the stock rallied aone-day record of 41.1%. Trading volume was a massive 423.6 million shares, breaking Thursday one-day record total of 399.4 million shares.

So, diese Woche verkündete jemand bei CNBC (Half Time Report, Jim Lebenthal) er habe Puts auf AAL gekauft weil die die Zinslast höher sei wie Ebitda letztes Jahr.

Ich habe mal ein bisschen Jahres- und Quartalsberichte gewälzt und bin mit nicht ganz sicher wie der Mann darauf kommt. GAAP Ebitda 2019 war 2,2 Mrd$, und letzes Jahr schon Zinskosten 1,1 Mrd$, total debt 24 Mrd$. Im Q1 2020 wird total debt mit 34Mrd$ angegeben, sind da in Q2 noch mal ca 14Mia$ oder so dazu gekommen?

Dann wären die ja tatsächlich dem sicheren Untergang gewidmet, da sie ja selbst bei normalen Verkehrsaufkommen ihre Schulden nicht mehr bedienen könnten. Q2 Zahlen gibt es Mittwoch.

Warren Buffett wird sich schon etwas dabei gedacht haben, wenn er alle Airline Aktien mit Verlust verkauft hat. Normalerweise nutzt er schwache Kurse zum nachkaufen, hier stellt er das ganze Geschäftsmodell in Frage.

Na ja, ich weiss nicht welche er gehabt hat. AAL sieht defitiv schlecht aus, UA und DAL viel besser.
