Marijuana Stocks: Tilray Rises On Deal To Buy Hemp Food Maker, CBD Play
Tilray (TLRY) on Wednesday said it plans to acquire what it calls the world's largest hemp food company, a move that could put more hemp and CBD items from the Canadian marijuana producer on retail shelves across the U.S. and Canada. Tilray stock rose along with most other marijuana stocks.
The company will acquire Manitoba Harvest from Compass Group Diversified Holdings. The cash-and-stock deal could be worth up to 419 million Canadian dollars, about $318 million, depending on certain milestones. Tilray expects to close the deal within 30 days.
Manitoba Harvest, founded in 1998, is based in Winnepeg. Its products include hemp granola, oil, protein powder and milk. Those products are sold in more than 16,000 stores at "major retailers" in the U.S. and Canada, Tilray said.
