Archer Daniels reports higher Q4 profit
Archer Daniels Midland Co. ADM, +3.59% reported higher profit and sales in the fourth quarter.
The grains trader on Wednesday reported earnings rose to $504 million, or 90 cents a share, from $315 million, or 55 cents a share, in the fourth quarter last year. The company's adjusted profit of $1.42 a share was well ahead of expectations of 72 cents a share.
Adjusted earnings exclude a 24-cent-a-share charge related to a loss on sale of an equity investment and a 16-cent-a-share charge related to asset impairment and restructuring charges.
ADM's sales of $16.33 billion were up 2.4% from the year earlier but below estimates from analysts polled by FactSet, who predicted ADM would generate $16.46 billion in sales for the latest period.
