Monster Beverage posts higher quarterly profit
Monster Beverage Corp. MNST, +8.67% said its profit rose for its fourth quarter, driven by increased sales of its signature energy drink brand.
The Corona, Calif.-based energy drink maker reported a profit of $239.1 million, or 43 cents a share, compared with $201.3 million, or 35 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting earnings of 40 cents a share.
Total sales rose 14.1% to $924.2 million from $810.4 million a year earlier. Analysts had expected $901 million of revenue in the quarter. Sales for the company's flagship Monster energy drinks segment increased 15.9% to $853.3 million from $736.1 million the prior year. Monster said international sales also grew 30.4% for the quarter.
The company also authorized a new $500 million share repurchase program.
