Vail Resorts reports wider-than-expected loss as sales miss
Vail Resorts Inc. MTN, -17.85% reported Friday a fiscal first-quarter net loss that widened to $107.8 million, or $2.66 a share, from $28.4 million, or 71 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. The ski resort operator said the loss included acquisition-related expenses of $4.9 million and a loss of $3.6 million from off-season operations. The FactSet consensus for net losses was $2.47 a share. Total revenue slipped 0.4% to $220.0 million from $220.2 million, while the FactSet consensus was for a rise of $235.1 million. North American season pass sales were up 21% in units, and 13% in sales dollars through Dec. 2 compared with the same period a year ago.
