Goodyear on Pace for Worst Day Since 2011 on Downward Guidance Revision

As a result, the company now expects its operating income to come in slightly below its previous guidance of about $1.3 billion. Net income is also expected to be negatively impacted by the fourth-quarter weakness, though the company didn't provide details about the impact on net income.

The company swung to net income of $110 million, or 47 cents a share, from a loss of $96 million, or 39 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Excluding non-recurring items, adjusted earnings per share fell to 51 cents from 99 cents, missing the FactSet consensus of 60 cents. Sales fell 5% to $3.88 billion, below the FactSet consensus of $3.94 billion, as unit tire volumes declined 3% to 40.7 million.

Recently, Goodyear reported disappointing results in its fiscal 2018 fourth quarter.

Adjusted earnings of 51 cents missed the Zacks Consensus of 60 cents and fell considerably from the 99 cents per share reported in the year-ago quarter.

Revenues of $3.88 billion missed our consensus estimate and fell 5% compared to Q4 2017.

Tire unit volume hit 40.7 million, down 3% year-over-year. Replacement tire shipments were basically flat while original equipment unit volume fell 10% from the prior-year period.

Falling Estimates

Analysts have since turned bearish on Goodyear, with five cutting estimates in the last 60 days for the current fiscal year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate has dropped 70 cents during that same time period from $2.91 to $2.21 per share.

Die Aktien von Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. GT, -3,78% sanken am Freitag im Nachmittagshandel um 2,4% und machten damit einen früheren Tagesgewinn von bis zu 2,0% wieder wett, nachdem der Reifenverkäufer einen Gewinn für das erste Quartal meldete, der die Erwartungen übertraf, aber auch den Ausblick für das Gesamtjahr bezüglich des Anstiegs der Rohstoffkosten mehr als verdoppelte. Chief Financial Officer Darren Wells sagte auf der Konferenz mit Analysten nach den Ergebnissen, dass die Rohstoffkosten für 2021 voraussichtlich um 325 bis 375 Millionen US-Dollar steigen werden, hauptsächlich in der zweiten Jahreshälfte, verglichen mit früheren Schätzungen für einen Anstieg von 125 bis 175 Millionen US-Dollar. Für das erste Quartal sind die Rohstoffkosten jedoch tatsächlich um 15 Mio. US-Dollar gesunken, aber es wird erwartet, dass die Preissteigerungen in den kommenden Quartalen "etwas aufholen" werden. Unterdessen verbesserte sich die Preisgestaltung im Quartal um 64 Mio. US-Dollar, da das Unternehmen die Preise im Vorfeld der Rohstoffpreiserhöhungen anhob.
