Stryker stock 5% higher on profit, sales beat

Shares of Stryker Corp. SYK, -0.57% rose nearly 5% in the extended session Tuesday after the medical-device maker beat Wall Street expectations for its fourth quarter. Stryker said it earned $2.07 billion, or $5.44 a share, in the quarter, versus a loss of 66 cents a share in the year-ago period. Adjusted for one-time items, Stryker earned $2.18 a share, compared with $1.96 a share a year ago. Sales rose 9.4% to $3.8 billion, from $2.2 billion a year ago.

Stryker Corporation SYK reported fourth-quarter 2019 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.49, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.2%. Further, the bottom line improved 14.2% year over year and exceeded the high end of management’s guidance range.

The Michigan-based medical device company reported revenues of $4.13 billion, which outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.7%. Revenues improved 8.8% on a year-over-year basis and 9.4% at constant currency (cc).

In 2019, the company reported revenues worth $14.88 billion, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate. On a year-over-year basis, the top line improved 9.4%.
